Credit Control Manager - Permanent, Canary Wharf
Hours: 40 per week, 08.30am - 17.30pm Monday to Friday
Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include overseeing the efficient management of service charge debts owed, overseeing the various operations required to resolve debt repayment, introducing systems and procedures to enable the efficient collection of outstanding service charge and ground rent debts, and creating reports to demonstrate the performance and delivery of recovery actions taken.
- Leading the credit control team to actively collect outstanding debts through calls, emails or letters, notifying debtors of overdue invoices and encouraging them to pay.
- Maintaining regular contact with leaseholders to ensure proper management of debt. Develop close relationships with significant clients (e.g. Housing Associations, Commercial tenants) to ensure efficient collection of outstanding debts.
- Overseeing the issuing of statements to debtors on a regular basis or as required.
- Set and ensure cash collection targets and aged debt targets are met.
- Gather sufficient data to make referrals to debt collection agencies, and follow procedures.
- Using professional judgement to identify potential bad debts at an early stage and taking the appropriate action to address the situation.
- Negotiating with debtors to ensure extended credit terms are appropriately managed and monitored.
- Taking active steps to ensure that debtor ledgers are properly maintained including the monitoring of unallocated cash and credit notes.
- Keeping an accurate record of debt chasing activities to support any decisions made to refer debtors to legal.
- To prepare regular reports to management clearly detailing the outstanding debtor position and monitoring progress against cash collection targets and aged debtor ratios and any other measures used to measure the performance of the credit control function.
- Using professional judgement to determine when to commence legal action against a debtor and liaising with internal and external legal teams to ensure the successful recovery of long-term outstanding debts.
- Develop relationships and processes with 3rd party dept collection agencies to assist in dept collection. Manage these relationships and ensure all reporting is compiled to give a collective view to business.
- Develop and oversee reporting tools to track legal cases.
- Working with legal teams and other third-party agencies to recover long term debts. Establish policy and report to management on bad debt write offs/provisions required for bad or doubtful debts.
- Adhering to standard policies and regulations in the conduct of their work including GDPR policy.
- Assist where necessary with any other tasks or duties
Skills & Experience
- Numeracy, professional judgement and good communication skills. Experience of negotiating with key clients would also be an advantage.
- More than 5 years’ experience of credit control management gained in a substantial commercial organisation/residential managing agent would be an advantage.
- An understanding of leasehold law and the impact of legislation on the recovery of lessee debt would be an advantage.
- Expected to demonstrate professional behaviour in all involvements with external stakeholders.
